NGC-5128 [Latvia]

As a big techno music enthusiast i'm always more interested in local smaller scene somehow. It's not that i don't like bigger names, but isn't the idea of indie music more charming?
NGC-5128 (named after a faraway galaxy) is one of the greatest minimal-techno artists i've came across lately.

Future environment 3466 [mp3]
Tonight in planetaria [mp3]
Friendly visual phantoms of disused industria [mp3]

His "Future environment 3466" is all about the rhythm, repetitive bumpin makes the track, which is more than a 4/4 beat. Lots of fun with vocal pitching too. That kind of environment seems to be delightful, don't you think? "Tonight in planetaria" is flooded with cosmic synths. The name of the track just says it all. All technoid stargazers unite! "Friendly visual phantoms of disused industria" is one hellhole of clicks and cuts. This one likewise the others also doesn't have a proper melody line. And i think it's hitting hard without it.

And if you'd like to know more about Ventspils' electronic music collective (as they are closer than ever), you should check their site here. They've got some mad atmospheric tunes out there.

Matti Kallioinen [Sweden]

his site and recordlabel abnormal audio

Matti Kallioinen is fun! I've been listening to his melodies for a while now and every time i do, it reminds me to grab a good old nintendo game for much more fun. However childish and ridiculous Matti's playfulness might sound at first, it will cheer you up and you are going to like it. His influences go back to the early days of moog-music when Bruce Haack made great music for children with his own-built instruments and modular synths. Matti just sounds a bit edgier in the age of IDM and synthpop than his pre-historical ancestor, but they do have a similar mood in their music. Oh well, just enter the 8-bit wonderland...

50hertz

overdose of swedish electro? haha. here's some more. 50hertz is fun and ill synthpunk. they are even famous (they remixed björk's "army of me"). now you can download their new ep for free. you're welcome! (and i don't understand what they are singing about)

Viola [Finland]

viola and if society

"sad eyed disco dancers" is a track from viola's new ep melancholydisco, which also has few remixes. i guess you can call it gothdisco. i like it. usually they make sad and melanholic and gothic semi-electronic pop music. "lovelights" from their debut album is a good example. i have also their 7" vinyl, which has acoustic tracks without electronic beats and synthesizers. they have even christmas record! what a versatile group.
